Method
of Application
Almost any surface or object can be given a flock finish. The item
or area has to be coated with a suitable adhesive. A variety of
means are possible to apply the adhesive depending upon their suitability.
The usual methods are either spray gun, brush, roller coater or
silk screen.
The flock fibre
is charged electrostatically which causes the individual fibres
to penetrate 'end on' into the adhesive. This creates a high density
pile effect of up to 150,000 fibres per square inch. The length
and denier of the fibre determines the type of finish eg: suede
or velvet.
